80% of what I am working on should always be routine and easy.
That doesn’t mean boring – boring is different.
But when I find that more than 20% of what I am doing in a day is breaking new ground and trying to maintain intensely creative problem-solving, that’s when I notice that my productivity has sharply dipped, and often without me having noticed the problem.
Strategy and guidelines are more important than tasks and requirements.

Before I moved to the suburbs, I was a big user of ZipCar. I happen to think it’s a great company, and I’m very happy to hear that they recently went public!
It never occurred to me that the liability insurance they provide with your hourly car rental might not be sufficient…
