This blending of software services with hardware, while it has many benefits, has some dangers that I had never considered.
Some interesting thoughts about the implications of buying hardware which depends on a web service to be useful.
The first time my Kindle had an outage I had some of these same thoughts. Since I had already purchased a lot of content from Amazon at that point, and the content was only usable if my Kindle was functioning, I felt a bit self-righteous about demand an immediate resolution from Amazon.
